Let me start by saying that this is NOT my pregnancy announcement for baby #3 :).
It has obviously been awhile since I’ve posted about pregnancy, but since there are SO many pregnant women in my life (family members, friends and clients), I thought I would dedicate this post to them and share some of my fit pregnancy must-haves.
Comfortable workout gear is essential for an active pregnant mom to be. You can obviously get away with your pre-pregnancy workout clothes for a little while, but there will come a time when you need a couple of items that will grow with your growing bump during the second and third trimesters.
The number one necessity for a fit pregnancy are black yoga pants…heck, that is the number one necessity for any pregnancy. But I’m not talking just any type of yoga pants. My favorite maternity workout item were my Ultimate Maternity Micro Plush Fitness Pants from ForTwoFitness.com. I lived in these pants. They are honestly the most comfortable yoga type pants I’ve ever worn and they are worth every single penny. The high waist band has great support and stretches nicely as your belly grows.
I wore them so much (even my trip to the hospital) that I will most definitely need a new pair if I do have another baby :). They were also great postpartum until I was able to comfortably fit back into my pre-pregnancy workout clothes.
Comfy active tops are also essential for your maternity sweat sessions. I loved my racer-back tank and t-shirt from For Two Fitness (both shown in photos). For one, the sayings are super cute, but most importantly, the shirts’ material is soft, breathable, and stretchy. It also held up well to many washes and the colors stayed bright. Look how cute Daniela was in there at 38 weeks <3.
For Two Fitness is actually having an awesome SALE this week with prices up to 30% off! The sale ends Friday so make sure to take advantage of it!
Another fit pregnancy must have is a high quality supportive sports bra. I never had to spend much time researching a good sports bra in the past since I didn’t have a need for one, but that quickly changed during my pregnancy and the lack of support became more and more uncomfortable for me. It was worth the time and research to find a comfortable sports bra for my pregnancies!
It is also a smart idea to think about purchasing a new pair of running shoes/sneakers in the next size up for your growing and swollen feet. I know shoes can get expensive but if you can find a good deal I would definitely recommend it. Your feet and back will thank you.
Another item I swore by during my pregnancy was my Polar FT4 Fitness Women’s Heart Rate Monitor watch. It always gave me piece of mind to keep an eye on my heart rate during my workouts. Contrary to what many doctors recommend, I did not try to keep my heart rate below 140 bpm, but I still liked to know how hard my heart was working during certain workouts and if I saw much change further into my pregnancy. It is also nice to see how many calories I burned during my workouts!
My stability ball was a life-saver for my sore back during pregnancy! I would sit on the ball each day for about a half hour in my third trimester because it relieved the pressure in my back. I also did it because they say it helps the baby get in an optimal birthing position, and since that was a problem with my first I wanted to make sure I tried everything possible not to repeat history. For what it’s worth Daniela was in the perfect position, and because of that I was able to have a VBAC!
Keep up with your exercise and healthy eating during your pregnancy and make sure you’re comfortable while doing it! Remember, a fit pregnancy will help you bounce back that much faster. Here is Daniela and I just one week shy of nine months postpartum.
