Time is FLYING by. I can’t believe it’s March already and my little girl is 12 weeks old.
I’m so excited for the month of March. Phil’s birthday is in a few weeks, and of course I am ecstatic for the start of spring. Yay for being in the homestretch of this awful winter we’ve had!
It’s also time for my bi-weekly weight loss update. The scale caught up this week and I lost three pounds in the past two weeks (actually in the past three days). So far I’ve lost 31 pounds, I’m 10 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight and 16 pounds from my goal. I’m still consistently losing about a pound per week over a four week period on average, but I’ve noticed that I’ll only lose a pound in two or three weeks and then bam…3 pounds come off quickly. I’m happy with the slow weight loss because I’m still exclusively breastfeeding Daniela and don’t want to jeopardize that.
Here’s my progress picture for this week.
This week got away from me and I didn’t work out as much as I planned :(. I’m not going to make excuses…I just need to be better next week. However, I’m glad I incorporated HIIT into my workouts this week and maximized my time.
I want to tell you about HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and why I include it in my fitness routine. When you do a high intensity exercise circuit without rest in between the exercises, your heart rate stays at an elevated level for a longer period of time, therefore you burn more calories in that time period. This week I’ve done strength training HIIT workouts as well as cardio HIIT and I’ve noticed that I burn a lot more calories quicker (according to my Polar heart rate watch that measures calories burned). Three to four sets of a HIIT workout can take only 25-30 minutes, but you will be sweating I promise you! This type of workout is ideal for busy moms who might not have access to a ton of equipment or the time to have a 60-90 minute workout. My online clients have been enjoying (wanting to kill me) for including HIIT workouts into their workouts for this week because they are definitely a challenge!
I also want to discuss the importance of setting specific, realistic goals that you can measure over a specific time period. I always like to look ahead a few months to see what we have on our schedule. In the next 2-3 months we are going on vacation and having Daniela’s Christening. 8-12 weeks is a specific timeframe and realistic to lose at least ten pounds to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and ready to feel comfortable on the beach in a bathing suit. Weddings, school reunions, or even a simple family gathering a few months out is the perfect motivator to reach your goals. Make sure to measure your progress with photos, circumference measurements, and keep a weight log. I promise you that if you put a specific plan into place and execute that plan consistently, you will reach your goal.
I can’t leave out my Daniela update for the week :). We were at the pediatrician last week and my girl weighed in at 13 pounds, 2 ounces and is 24 inches long. This month she has been super smiley and rolling over a ton. This past week she has been sitting in her Bumbo chair a lot. She’s getting so big!
I hope you have a great weekend!
