It’s the weekend!!!!! Yay for Fridays :). I hope everyone had a fabulous week working toward their goals.
I’ve decided to share a weekly update of my postpartum weight loss journey. I want this series to be as real as possible by sharing my weekly struggles and successes, and show that losing weight after a baby takes time and hard work, but it’s also very doable to achieve the body you want.
The day I gave birth I weighed 171 pounds. Four weeks ago I weighed 148 pounds. Today I weigh 144, so I’ve lost about one pound per week this past month (down 27 pounds total). Here is my first progress photo…the left was taken on my due date and the right was taken yesterday.
I was frustrated the past few weeks because I fluctuated up and down for a few days, so now I only weigh myself once per week on Friday. I absolutely have a long way to go to get to my goal weight of 124, but I need to remind myself that I had a baby eight weeks ago and the results will come as long as I stay consistent with my plan.
My Fitness Plan:
A few weeks ago I did the unthinkable for me and froze my gym account. I know it seems counterintuitive but it made the most sense for the next couple of months. The only gym in our area is New York Sports Club and it’s fifteen minutes away. It’s not worth paying every month when I can only get there a few times a week. You can’t bring a baby to their daycare until they are 3 months old and I wouldn’t bring Daniela that soon anyway because of all the germy toddlers during cold and flu season.
So I’ve committed to work out at home for the next few months…something I thought I’d never do, but I’m not going to allow the excuse that “I don’t have time to get to the gym,” get in the way of my goals. I’ve been working out 4-5 days per week and doing strength training routines (with body weight only…the only piece of equipment I have at home is a stability ball). I usually do circuits to get my heart rate up. I’ve also been doing T25 workouts and workouts from a Jillian Michaels book I’ve had forever. When the temps reach the 40’s (which hasn’t been much lately :/), I run outside.
While I believe it can be done at home, I will be going back to the gym in a few months because I know I will reach my goals faster by incorporating weight training into my fitness routine.
I’ve been trying to eat as clean as possible. I’ve been concentrating on increasing my lean protein intake and trying to incorporate fruits and vegetables into my day as much as possible. My one weakness has been chocolate…I’ve been eating a little bit everyday. I’ve also been slacking with drinking water.
My goal for this week is to get back on track to drink a gallon of water per day…this is going to be challenging but necessary! Stay tuned in the next few weeks for my meal plans.
Ok, that’s enough about me. Here’s a little update on my girl. Daniela is 8 weeks old today! This is going WAY too fast. She is doing great and it’s amazing to watch her change from day to day. At her six week checkup she gained three pounds in four weeks! She was 8 lbs, 5 oz at birth and is now 11 lbs, 5 oz…I guess I can safely say that she’s eating enough, which puts my mind at ease as I try to balance my postpartum weight loss with breastfeeding. She had her first round of vaccines and she did wonderful…only cried for ten seconds.
Here are some photos from the week of my Daniela’s many facial expressions…
Love my girl so much <3…sometimes I still can’t believe I’m a mother of two…it’s amazing :).
I look forward to sharing my progress with you in the coming weeks and months! I hope you have a great weekend!
