I have to start by saying Happy Veteran’s Day. Today we give our thanks and heartfelt gratitude to the men and women who have worn the uniform in defense of our nation. America is the land of the free because we are the home of the brave. I especially have to thank my Grandpa Paul up in heaven for serving in the Korean War and my mom, father-in-law, Sergeant Major Phil Sr., and my brother-in-law, Tony who all served in the Army.
I’m in week 37 of my pregnancy and that means officially in the ninth month! I kicked off the final month with a busy and ambitious weekend. I went to a dear friend’s wedding on Saturday, which was a lot of fun to see old friends. Going to the wedding was the easy part…getting all dolled up and doing my hair and makeup was exhausting haha, but it was nice to get all dressed up…I was even brave enough to wear heels for a few hours! I was proud of myself :).
Yesterday my husband and I took our 22 month old son, Philip, into Manhattan for the first time with my sister-in-law and our two nieces. It was a great day but we did a lot of walking for a woman who is nine months pregnant. At least all of the walking helped make up for the cheat day I had :/. We went to Carmines in Times Square and I ate A LOT and I finished it off with a piece of Junior’s cheesecake from Grand Central Station…for all of you New Yorkers, you understand :). I definitely don’t feel bad about it because I only have a few more weeks of occasionally indulging before this baby comes!
Since I’m in the home stretch I wanted to share the comparison of this pregnancy versus the pregnancy with my son and how exercise and a healthy diet absolutely are the reason why I feel so much better.
When I was pregnant with Philip I ate whatever I wanted. I was always so conscious of my weight so I saw this as my only opportunity to indulge. I craved carbs and sweets and definitely did not drink enough water. It got ugly, especially since I was in the third trimester during Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! I worked out maybe five times throughout my entire pregnancy and ended up gaining 52 pounds!
During the last ten weeks of my first pregnancy I had severe swelling and horrible back pain. I was constantly uncomfortable and just miserable.
This time around I really feel great for being 37 weeks and I attribute it to this:
- Healthy diet. I’ve tried my best to stick to eating small healthy and balanced meals throughout the day. Have I had ice cream, pizza and a big bowl of spaghetti…yes I have (just not all at once :)), but I only allow myself to do so occasionally.
- Juicing. I started juicing about once a day about 8 weeks ago and it has made me feel amazing.
- Drinking LOTS of water. I’ve been really good about trying to keep track of how many ounces of water I drink per day. Making sure I drink at least 60 ounces and upward of 100 ounces. I have not been swollen at all and I believe this has made all the difference. My wedding rings are still on people!
- Consistent Exercise. Sticking to a moderate weight training and cardio regimen about four days per week absolutely made a huge difference this time. Not only did it help keep my energy levels up, but it is a big reason why my back does not hurt this pregnancy. I’ve definitely slowed down in these last few weeks but I’m still trying to get my cardio in (even if its only walking ) a few times per week.
I know every pregnancy is different but these changes that I’ve made have absolutely had a positive impact this pregnancy.
I still have so much to get ready so I’m going to go get started washing all of the newborn clothes, blankets, etc. My son came a week early…I wonder when this baby will decide to make their entrance into the world. We will see!
I hope you all have a great week :).
